Vehicle Track Maintenance

We have recently made some repairs to the vehicle track at Alne Wood Park

The track that leads from the car park at Alne Wood Park, and circles the burial ground, was originally laid more than a decade ago. Over the years there has been some deterioration, which has been exacerbated by lengthy periods of very dry weather, followed by prolonged wet weather, particularly over the last 2 years.

The vehicle track is essential to allow Alne Wood Park to function as a burial ground. Primarily, providing access to graves for funeral cars and those walking from the car park to the graves. For those who are unable to walk up the hill, it also provides a means to drive up the slope closer to the burial ground.

The picture below shows how much the track had become damaged over the years.

During the project we needed to close the site for a short time, and we would like to thank everyone for their understanding. The track has been levelled and resurfaced with recycled road planings, see below.

To reduce the occurrence of further deterioration, if you do need to use the track for access, then we would politely request you to not make three point turns, but instead driving around the track to your required location. This will reduce the creation of new potholes. It is also essential that vehicles remain on the track at all times, as there are places where burials are close to the track edges.
