One of the additions we’ve made in 2024 at Alne Wood Park is to start marking new burial sites with a small wooden name-plaque. This is included as part of the burial cost, both for full and ashes burials. This provides help for family and friends to identify and locate a recent burial. These plaques, as shown in the image below, are made from sections of trees taken out of the Heart of England Forest as part of our woodland management plan.

These are laser-etched so over time both the lettering and wood itself will decay. However, while these do not offer a permanent memorial it is helpful for relatives to have a site marked during the initial period where a grave settles or until a larger marker is ordered and placed on an ashes plot.

Larger memorial plaques are available for purchase, either a wooden plaque made from a section of Heart of England Forest tree or a stone marker which is sourced from a local stonemason using Forest of Dean Sandstone. Again the wooden markers, although naturally oiled, will deteriorate over time but should last a few years. The stone markers are clearly a more permanent option for those looking for a long-term memorial. Details of pricing for these larger memorials and an order form can be found on our Pricing Page or please Contact Us if you have any questions on these.
